Into the second week without power
The power company still says 99% restored by 11:59pm Sunday. I've stopped believing it. My census experience came in handy: the restoration map didn't resolve fine enough to show street names, but I found our street anyway. as of the info available at 9am, our backbone wasn't even up. We will never have electricity again. I will live my life in the school and town libraries, going home to cook by battery lantern light on a single camp stove burner, buying only a day or two's food at a time, breathing frosty air as I sleep clutching a hot water bottle. I will join a gym just to be able to shower. At least my school will be back in session Monday. The kid's still isn't.
I'm so done with this.
