Or, why I won't be wearing any eye makeup for a week.

Woke up this morning with my right eye gunked shut. "Aw, crap," I thought. "HOW old was my mascara, again?"

Threw the mascara in the trash. Waited for the doctor's office to open, so I could call them. Got a 10AM appointment, which led, as I expected, to a prescription for antibiotic ointment. Four times a day for 5-7 days, both eyes because it spreads so easily.

Bought a NEW mascara while I was getting the prescription. Put a note in my electronic calendar for six months from now that I should replace it.

At least my other eye stuff is probably safe, because it's been over 72 hours since I used anything BUT the mascara, so obviously they weren't the culprits or I'd have suffered this sooner, PLUS I always use disposable applicators with eye shadow.

But really. I've just started to embrace cosmetics again as fun and expressive and personal adornment, rather than a Tool Of The Patriarchy, and what do I get for it?
